:: The Village
History
A few kilometres north from Barcelona, Caldes d’Estrac
combines its thermal waters with its bright beaches. The village
has an exceptional weather – early springs and mild winter
temperatures. The thermal waters of Caldetes, as the village
is known, are the only ones that can be found by the sea.
The origins of the village date back to ancient times, but during
the Roman era, when the village was known as Aquae Calidae,
the properties of its waters were highly praised. From 1870
to 1920, Caldetes lived a golden age that gave it its present
appearance, with outstanding architectonic examples.
Framed by the sea and the Serralada Litoral, the village and
its surroundings offer classic Mediterranean images. The mixture
of agriculture and fishing – typical along the Maresme
coastline – gives the area a rich gastronomic offer in
which fish, vegetables and legumes stand out.
